Lambient™

Product Overview

Post-emergent control of grasses and broadleaf weeds.

Lambient herbicide offers post-emergent control of a wide variety of invasive and noxious grasses and broadleaf weeds. A single fall or spring application is recommended to coincide with the successful establishment and/or release of desirable vegetation. Lambient should be applied as a foliar broadcast spray using ground or aerial (fixed wing or helicopter) equipment. Lambient is ideal for broadcast applications in rangeland, pastures, grass hay fields and grasses in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP).

Key Benefits

  • Can be applied as a foliar broadcast treatment
  • Is selective to many grass species*
  • Helps re-establish desirable vegetation
  • Reduces wildfire fuel
  • Improves wildlife habitat
  • Fall or spring post-emergent application
*See the label for a complete list of tolerant grass species.

Use & Control

Weeds Controlled

Downy brome, foxtail barley, henbit, Japanese brome, nightshade, rattail fescue, ripgut brome, mustard species (black, blue, tansy, tumble, wild) and more

Always read and follow label instructions. See the product label for a full list of weeds controlled.

FAQ

What is Lambient herbicide?

Lambient™ herbicide delivers postemergence control of a wide variety of invasive and noxious grasses and broadleaf weeds in rangeland, pastures and acreage in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP).

What is the active ingredient in Lambient herbicide?

The active ingredient in Lambient herbicide is propoxycarbazone-sodium (Group 2B herbicide).

Where can Lambient herbicide be used?

Lambient herbicide is ideal for broadcast applications in rangeland, permanent grass pastures, grass hay fields and CRP acres.

What common vegetation management goals does Lambient herbicide help achieve?

Lambient herbicide may be used to control non-native, invasive and noxious plants in order to protect desirable plants against competition, help reestablish desirable vegetation, improve wildlife habitat, and manage the risk of wildfire by reducing potential fuel.

How is Lambient herbicide applied?

Lambient herbicide is a water-dispersible granule that is mixed with water and applied as a foliar broadcast postemergence spray. The most consistent weed control is obtained through ground application, but it can also be applied via aerial application equipment (fixed wing or helicopter).

When is the best time to apply Lambient herbicide?

Apply Lambient herbicide in the fall or spring to actively growing weeds. The best weed control can be expected when applications are made before grassy weeds produce tillers and when broadleaf weeds are smaller than 2 inches in diameter. In especially challenging weed control situations, or to manage difficult-to-control perennial weeds, apply Lambient herbicide in the fall and again the following spring.

How does Lambient herbicide work?

The active ingredient in Lambient herbicide is absorbed by leaves and roots and translocated to other areas of the plant. It inhibits the acetolactate synthase (ALS) enzyme, which then starves the plant of specific amino acids that are essential for growth.

What species of grasses and broadleaf weeds does Lambient herbicide control?

Lambient herbicide controls or suppresses a wide variety of grasses and broadleaf weeds, including downy brome, foxtail barley*, henbit*, Japanese brome, nightshade, rattail fescue*, ripgut brome, mustard species (black, blue, tansy, tumble, wild) and more. See the product label for a complete list. *Only partially controls at both application rates.

What are the recommended water volume rates for Lambient herbicide?

For ground application, apply Lambient herbicide in an equivalent volume of 5 or more gallons of water per acre (GPA). For dense weed infestations, use an equivalent volume of 15 or more GPA. For aerial application, apply in a minimum equivalent volume of 3 GPA. In heavy weed infestations, dense crop canopy or in stress conditions, 5 GPA carrier volume is strongly recommended.

Can Lambient herbicide be used for spot applications?

Spot treatments with Lambient herbicide may be used to control any remnant plants or new seedlings that may emerge. Use rates equivalent to broadcast-applied rates of up to a maximum of 1.2 oz./acre per annual growing season. To prevent misapplication, spot treatments should be applied with a calibrated boom, boomless spray system, or hand-held or backpack sprayers. Spray volume should be sufficient to thoroughly and uniformly wet weed foliage.

What precautions can be taken to keep Lambient herbicide out of ground water or surface water?

Do not apply Lambient herbicide directly to water, or to areas where surface water is present or to intertidal areas below the average high-water mark. To reduce the risk of leaching into ground water, do not use Lambient in areas where soils are permeable, particularly where the water table is shallow. The risk of runoff will be reduced by avoiding applications when rainfall is forecast to occur within 48 hours, and by maintaining a level, well-maintained vegetative buffer strip between treated areas and surface water features such as ponds, streams, and springs.
