Joe Barile has done it all in pest management, from university extension entomology to technical direction for a multi-branch pest control firm. Today, he’s the Technical Service Lead for Bayer Environmental Science’s Professional Pest Management Team. Why did you get into pest management?
I needed a job. Turns out it was the best decision I ever made.
What's your favorite thing about working for Bayer?
I get a variety of challenges and opportunities every day.
Have you earned any awards or industry recognition of note?
I’m in the Entomological Society of America, I’m a board certified entomologist, and a member of the American Mosquito Control Association.
What's your favorite bug and why?
Flies, because they are the ultimate in efficiency.
What does "Science for a Better Life" mean to you?
I think it means improving the human condition. Using the best of science to make human life better. What could be better than that?
What's one thing most people don't know about you?
I have skydived.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
Fly fishing, snowboarding, going places in my Jeep.
What would you do if you weren't in pest management?
Probably teach fly fishing or snowboarding. Or find my way to pest management?
